South Africa: Most Crimes Against Women Committed by Spouses – Stats SA
Stats SA’s victim crime report has revealed that 60% of crimes against women in the country are committed by spouses, friends, acquaintances and other relatives.
According to a recent report analyzing assault cases reported by women in 2024/2025, the perpetrators are usually known to their victims. Statistician-General Risenga Maluleke released the report in Pretoria. He said that, unlike men, women are often targeted in places where they should feel safe.
The report also indicates that knives were the most commonly used weapon in assaults against women last year, followed by firearms.
