Tunisia tops Morocco among French travellers despite booking dip
Tunisia has remained the leading Maghreb destination for French travellers this summer, ranking ahead of Morocco in July 2026 bookings despite a slight decline. Morocco, however, posted stronger year-on-year growth, reflecting rising demand for its diverse tourism offerings.
Tunisia ranked fourth among the most booked international destinations for French holidaymakers departing in July 2026, according to the latest French Holiday Observatory published by Les Entreprises du Voyage. Morocco followed in sixth place.
Although bookings to Tunisia fell by 3.2% compared with July 2025, the country retained its position as the most popular destination in the Maghreb for French tourists.
Morocco gains momentum
Morocco recorded the strongest performance between the two countries, with bookings rising 6.4% year-on-year.
The increase highlights the country’s growing appeal among French travellers, led by destinations such as Marrakech and Agadir, while Chefchaouen, the Atlas Mountains and the Merzouga desert are also attracting more visitors.
Different tourism strengths
Tunisia continues to draw holidaymakers with its Mediterranean beaches and established seaside resorts, including Hammamet, Djerba, Monastir and Mahdia. Cultural attractions such as the medina of Tunis, Carthage and Sidi Bou Saïd also remain key draws.
Morocco, meanwhile, is benefiting from demand for a broader mix of city breaks, mountain escapes, coastal holidays and desert experiences.
Regional appeal remains strong
Despite contrasting trends, both countries continue to rank among the favourite overseas destinations for French travellers.
Industry figures attribute their popularity to close proximity to France, competitive prices, warm summer weather and tourism offerings that cater to a wide range of budgets and travel preferences.
