Strawberry picking season in the Cape happens every year between October and December, and many farms offer self-picking where you can spend the day with family and friends while filling baskets with berries to your heart’s content.
Here are some of the best farms in the Western Cape to head to for a fun day of strawberry picking for the whole family.
POLKADRAAI STRAWBERRY FARM, STELLENBOSCH
A visit to Stellenbosch is always fun and the Polkadraai Strawberry Farm is a must.
This family-friendly farm has endless fields of strawberries ripe for picking, and an array of entertainment for the kids, such as pony rides, face-painting and tractor rides.
There is a lovely farm café that serves homestyle fare and a spacious bar where you can taste some of the region’s wines.

MOOIBERGE STRAWBERRY FARM
Dating back to the 1900s, the Mooiberge Strawberry Farm is not only famous for its world-class strawberry harvests each year, but also for the legion of scarecrows deployed in the fields to protect the crops from birds.
The farm has a charming farmstall that sells its strawberries, as well as a wide range of dried fruits and nuts.
