Filming Ghana’s birthplace of boxing
Priscilla Owusu’s documentary profiles Bukom town in Ghana – the birthplace of several boxing world champions with a sporting history dating back to the 1950s.
Her film, The City of Bukom, explores the challenges the town faces as it tries to keep churning out the boxing stars of tomorrow.
“Trying to obtain archive footage was hard and this is why it is so vital to document our history,”
Owusu herself lived up to the resilience of Bukom’s boxers when, during production, her footage was accidentally deleted. She managed to retrieve it, then edited the documentary from scratch.
