Africa: Continent Nears 190,000 Confirmed COVID-19 Cases

As of June 8, the confirmed COVID-19 case total from 55 African countries has reached 189,559. Reported deaths in Africa have reached 5,189 and recoveries 82,985.
South Africa has the most reported cases – 48,285, with deaths numbering 998. Other most-affected countries include Egypt (34,079 cases), Nigeria (12,486), Algeria (10,154), and Ghana (9,638).
The numbers are compiled by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (world map) using statistics from the World Health Organization and other international institutions as well national and regional public health departments.
