Our climate awakening in Africa

The creeping threat of climate change is catching up with all of us, and more lives than ever are being transformed by the reality of climate change in Africa.
Nirere Sadrach in Uganda and Adenike Oladosu in Nigeria can’t ignore what they’ve witnessed. They are fighting for their future.
Mr Sadrach grew up in a farming community in Uganda, surrounded by the sounds of birds, the smell of cow dung, and an abundance of mangoes to snack on on the walk back from school. Like 70% of Uganda’s population, his family made its livelihood through agriculture.
But as he grew up, his family faced challenges that previous generations hadn’t – the land was changing, and it was getting harder and harder for the farm to produce. Struggling to survive, the family eventually joined thousands of others across Africa, migrating from the countryside to towns.
Finally, at university, Mr Sadrach learned that his village’s problems weren’t just bad luck – it was linked to global climate change. Now he’s joined campaigners around the world fighting to protect the planet. He’s hopeful about the future, but says that politicians and business need to start acting.
Listen to this week’s The Comb podcast to hear the experiences of Mr Sadrach and Ms Oladosu who have dedicated their lives to fighting climate change.
