Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Opens Up Gyms

Aceng addressing media on revised SOPs

The ministry of Health has revised its coronavirus disease standard operating procedures (SOPs) to allow up to 200 people from the initial 70 to attend mass gatherings including political rallies, prayers, weddings among others.

Addressing the press today Monday evening, Health minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng said politicians, who, officially kicked off their campaigns today ahead of next year’s general elections must ensure that they have handwashing facilities at places where they hold political rallies, masses are obliged to wear face masks and must maintain a two-meter distance from each other in all directions.

When it comes to cinema halls, gymnasiums and massage parlours, the minister said they can reopen effective November 14 so long as they fulfil the requirements of ensuring a physical distance of two meters. Aceng also reopened mobile markets, casinos and gaming outlets between 6.30 am and 7.00 pm.

However, while there has been widespread clamouring for bars and discotheques to reopen with many already operating illegally in several urban centres, Aceng says these will remain closed until further notice, saying in other countries that are currently experiencing a second lockdown with bars being cited as focal areas of spread.
