Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Abides By The Agreement

ADDIS ABABA—Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) construction is well in progress as per the schedule keeping declaration of principle and agreements.
Speaking to The Ethiopian Herald, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Dina Mufti said that GERD is the flagship project, the source of power, that everyone is waiting for its completion. The rumors circulating around the dam through some social and streaming media outlets, which are purely fake news and are from those elements who do not what Ethiopia to make a difference, have been unfounded allegations.
“Starting from day one of its inauguration to the level it is now, the construction of GERD is underway keeping promising pace thanks to the general public for their patriotic gesture to finance it,” he added.
“Hopefully the Dam will be finalized as per the schedules and in tune with the declaration of principles and agreements signed in Khartoum, and Ethiopia is interested in complying with the African Union-led negotiation to settle remaining differences,” he noted.
According to Dina, the Dam is not only power generating infrastructure, but it is the bond to further cement Africans brothers and sisters in a bid to live in harmony and enjoy equitable and just water share.
Responding to the question posed to him about fake news fabricated on the GERD, he said some media houses assume that they can grab the attention of the international communities obscuring the reality on the ground about GERD.
“As far as I am concerned, so long as the rapprochements predominantly depend on win-win approach, they are strongly believed to help avoid the impact of so called historical rights of the colonial era.
He finally noted that the issue of the Dam can only be amicably resolved through direct talks, round table discussions and developing common understanding among the countries concerned.
“Ethiopia is always committed to run activities via negotiating in good faith, making the necessary concessions and reaching a mutually beneficial tripartite accord in a bid to show the world how a source of conflict can be turned into cooperation,” he underscored.
