Israeli ambassador , Joseph Oded Flags Off 150 agricultural internships in Israel
The Israeli ambassador to Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi and Seychelles, Joseph Oded, has flagged off 150 students from 21 Ugandan educational institutions to go and study and practice agro studies in Israel.
He was accompanied by Israel’s honorary consul in Uganda, Ishta Asiimwe Muganga, at the function held at Makerere University on October 29. Issa Agaba Mugabo, the regional coordinator for AgroStudies programme, said the students will spend 11 months in Israel.
They will find another cohort of 240 Ugandan students who were retained there for an additional 11 months. This international apprenticeship program started in 2013. Participants stay on commercial farms, and earn a salary and a diploma, regardless of whether they already have a certificate, diploma or degree.
Because of the Covid-19 situation, a chartered plan will come from Israel to pick the cohort, tentatively on November 9, 2020. Oded said he envied the cohort because they are a special group and that he counted on them to be responsible for the sake of themselves, their institution and country.
He said every year, Uganda sends in the largest number of students to this international programme involving many countries
