A storm surge and wind speeds of up to 70km/h are expected to cause significant disruption as thousands of students return to school, according to IOL. Traffic officials are on high alert for road closures due to flooding and snow.

The South African Weather Service (Saws) has issued an orange level 6 warning for disruptive rain, which could result in mudslides in Cape Town, Drakenstein, and Stellenbosch municipalities.

Gusty winds are expected to reach speeds of 50-70km/h in parts of the Western Cape. Bronagh Hammond, spokesperson for the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), reported that 29 schools have sustained damage due to heavy winds and rainfall.

The disaster relief organization Gift of the Givers (GoTG) has assisted more than 15,000 displaced persons since the weekend.
