ON THIS DAY: 26 NOVEMBER

1975 | Breyten Breytenbach, an Afrikaans writer, is sentenced to 9 years in prison. He entered South Africa illegally to form a resistance group fighting apartheid in exile.

1980 | The ANC appealed to the UN to help save the lives of three young black men; Noimbithi Johnson Lubisi, Petrus Tsepo Mashigo and Naphtali Manan, who were falsely accused of killing two women during a shooting at a bank.

1988 | Harry Gwala, an ANC member and Zephania Mothopeng a PAC member, are released from Robben Island after two years. They were arrested because of underground political activities.

1998 | Canaan Banana, former president of Zimbabwe, is found guilty of sexual scandals. 

1999 | Ncome Museum, which is situated at the Ncome-Blood River Heritage Site, opened and started welcoming guests.
