Kenya: Super Metro Denies Ferrying Goons to Disrupt Gachagua Meetings
Nairobi — Super Metro has dismissed claims that its buses were used to ferry political goons to Kirinyaga to disrupt meetings addressed by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The bus company said the buses spotted in Kirinyaga were carrying secondary school students who were headed for a hike at Kathandeni Forest in Gichugu Constituency.
“The AIC Church Ziwani Nairobi has clarified that the buses spotted in Kirinyaga were carrying secondary school boys and girls who were heading for a hike at Kathandeni Forest in Gichugu Constituency,” Super Metro said.
The company said the youths had no connection to political activities, seeking to distance itself from allegations that its buses had been hired to transport people to cause chaos at Gachagua’s meetings.
“The youths had no connection to political activities amid earlier claims that the buses were carrying people brought in to cause havoc at Rigathi Gachagua’s meetings,” Super Metro said.
The clarification came after Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina accused the transport company of ferrying individuals she described as political goons to the region.
“Super Metro!!! I see you have transported Kasongo’s goons to Kirinyaga to wreck havoc at Riggy G’s meetings,” Maina said.
Maina warned that local organisers and facilitators would be pursued legally over the alleged mobilisation of the group.
“We shall hold you legally culpable for aiding and abetting any violence that happens at any of the meetings today,” she added.
Super Metro’s clarification disputed the allegations, stating that the passengers aboard the buses were school-going boys and girls travelling for a hike rather than individuals mobilised for political activity.
The controversy comes amid heightened political activity in the Mt Kenya region, where Gachagua has been holding meetings as he seeks to consolidate his political base ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The movement of groups into areas hosting political gatherings has increasingly become a source of suspicion among rival political camps, with accusations of planned disruptions and mobilisation of supporters emerging as political temperatures rise.
