Princess Diana Pictures Goes Viral

2 min read

A rare set of never-before-seen photos show the late Princess Diana aboard a luxury yacht with some of her trusted fashion designer pals.

The never-before-seen photos of the princess were shared by the Italian businessman and the co-founder of the Italian fashion house Valentino, Giancarlo Giammetti. They were reportedly snapped in Italy in 1990, two years before her separation from Prince Charles, and seven years before her death on 31 Augustus 1997.

According to The New York Post, the damp-haired Diana can be seen basking in the sun as she holds a drink and poses in a colourful print bikini next to Kyril, Prince of Preslav and Giammetti. The photos are believed to have been taken aboard the Valentino private yacht, T.M.Blue One.

Along with the photo, he said: “Always missing you #princessdiana 31 August 1997.”

He later went on to share some more snaps of the beloved princess. In the background of the yacht photos is the small island of Stromboli, which is located off the north coast of Sicily. And in the second photo Prince Kyril’s then-wife, Rosario Saxe-Coburg — a former model and Valentino muse, is also present.

Diana was known to have enjoyed yachts, reportedly as she felt like they enabled her to unwind in private. She famously spent her final holiday on a boat called Cujo in July 1997 with Dodi Fayed, just weeks before their deaths in the Paris car crash in August that same year.

Giammetti’s post comes after the release of season 4 of The Crown on Netflix. Here, the 24-year-old actress Emma Corrin has been earning rave reviews for her portrayal of the complex and iconic Princess Diana in the series. Emma – who shares striking physical similarities to the late princess including wide blue eyes and that perfect ‘Diana head tilt’ – embarked on months of auditions for The Crown, which culminated in a memorable ‘proposal’, during staged chemistry reading with Prince Charles, played by Josh O’Connor. She said that as soon as she walked in the room, the show’s director, Benjamin Caron, surprised her by getting down on one knee and asking, ‘will you be our Diana?’ “It felt a bit like the world stood still for a second,” she recalled.
